SCHOOL CLOSURES & BLUE PRINT FOR QUALITY SCHOOLS (BP6006)

After looking at the 2020-21 Budget Solutions for the General Fund, the report illustrates that OUSD’s Interim CFO, Luz Cazares, was able to cut millions of dollars through downsizing management, consolidating departments, streamlining, and tightening purchase orders. Not one of Cazares’ proposals for the General Funds Solution involved closing of schools. At this point, unless part of the savings is incorporated in the Central Office reduction totals for 2020-21, there is absolutely no point to continue to close or merge schools. This proof that closing and merges never needed to happen. My parent-led budgetary oversight committee will hold administration accountable in making sure that we have more equity. I also plan to seek additional grants that have been left unapplied for.
